Welcome to Albrighton Hunt

Hunt dog The Hunt was established as the Albrighton in 1830, even though the area had been hunted for many years before. The country, which extends some 30 miles north to south, 20 miles east to west, lies in Shropshire and Staffordshire, with the River Severn and Telford providing the western boundary, and Stafford to the East and Wolverhampton to the south.

The country is a mixture mainly arable to the south and dairy farming to the north. The spring stubble makes for good galloping across light ground, with Hound Exercise late into March. There are a few hedges, and many inviting fences have been built, there often an alternative way round so the newcomer need not be worried. We also have 2 or 3 confidence building newcomers’ days during the season over our easier country. The details of which, are on another page of our web site.

Our traditional Boxing Day Meet is held at Newport, which it has been for many years. Please come and join us, meet the hounds, It’s a grand occasion, and also a good way to help wear off the Christmas festivites!

Hunt

At some Meets, horsebox and trailer parking is limited. It is perfectly acceptable to hack 3 or 4 miles to the Meet or unbox up to a mile away. This helps to settle both horses and riders. Hounds usually meet at 11am, so please try to arrive at least 15 to 20 minutes early. We are a friendly bunch so please come and introduce yourselves and we will try and make your day as enjoyable as possible.

The correct dress would be a black coat (ladies can wear midnight blue), beige jodhpurs/breeches and black boots/gaiters. All headgear should conform to British safety standard and should be black velvet (black silk if wearing a jockey skull cap) or midnight blue. Children under 16 should wear tweed if possible.

Don't worry if you do not have the correct clothing, anything similar to the above will be perfectly acceptable. Please contact Julian Hill or Fleur Keeley if you would like to join us for a day's hunting, we will also be able to give you directions to the Meet.
